Sharing the Gospel During a Time of War
In the Democratic Republic of Congo, where war has raged since 1996, the task of sharing the Gospel has been marked by extraordinary challenges. Families are uprooted, communities are scattered, and fear often overshadows daily life. Amid the uncertainty of where people will sleep or find safety, the message of God’s saving grace becomes a beacon of hope. In such times of turmoil, the Gospel is not only preached but lived out through acts of compassion, encouragement, and steadfast faith.
Bishop Amisi Uwezo and the pastors of the 42 Victory Churches in the Congo embody this calling with remarkable courage. Even as bombs fall and bullets fly, they continue to minister to those in need, offering comfort and reminding people of God’s presence in the darkest valleys. Their perseverance testifies to the power of faith that refuses to be silenced by violence.
The difficulty of preaching in a war zone cannot be overstated. Yet, these pastors have not lost heart or hope. Instead, they cling to the promise that the light of Christ shines brightest in the midst of darkness. Their ministry is a living witness that God’s grace is not hindered by human conflict, and that His love reaches even those who feel abandoned or forgotten. In their resilience, we see the strength of the Spirit sustaining them and the communities they serve.
As fellow believers, we are called to lift them up in prayer. We pray for Bishop Uwezo and the Victory Church pastors, that the Lord would protect them, strengthen them, and multiply their efforts. We ask that God’s peace would break through the chaos of war, and that the seeds of the Gospel they plant would bear fruit even in the most difficult soil. Their faithfulness inspires us to remember that ministry is not about ease or comfort, but about obedience to Christ—even when the cost is great.
